The trip for us began on Thursday 21st April where Mick, Charm, Glen and I finally made it to Lake Burrendong after a very long traffic ingested 6 hour trip.  On arrival we found that there was a 2 day fishing tournament and the park which is quite large was filled with lots of campers who owned some very expensive fishing and skiing boats.

Friday saw the rest of the crowd arrive in dribs and drabs and we were all surprised at Pete and Gloria’s new addition to the family, a Majestic caravan, what a lovely little unit.

All five days at Lake Burrendong were beautiful autumn days of blues sky and sunshine, yes even I had a t-shirt on and nights were moderate and at times cool.  Off course we had the club pyromaniac Glen keeping the camp fire on the go and a big thanks to Gloria for organising the delivery of a tonne of wood from the local’s at Mumbil.

Saturday we all went into Dubbo and visited the information centre, the historic gaol, lunched in the park while Ron, Evelyn and Tristan visited relatives.  Glen and Wayne had an accident in their pants as a Kedron caravan pulled up in the information centre car park.

Sunday was a big day at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo, a lovely day was had by all and a big thank you to Ron and Evelyn for organising 6 tickets which were very much appreciated by all.

Monday some of us veged out at camp and some visited the nearby Wellington Caves who stated they were worth the visit.  Those of us who stayed back at camp witnessed a huge traffic jam at the completion of the fishing tournament, ski boats, fishing boats, camper trailers and an assortment of caravans all left the park over a number of hours, it was incredible.

Tuesday we had a brilliant run home with no traffic, they all must have headed home on the Monday and as soon as we hit Lithgow the dark clouds and drizzly rain started, we were certainly blessed with the weather for the entire weekend.

Glen and I thoroughly enjoyed our selves with the gang and the location, it’s a shame it’s that little bit too far for a normal weekend of camping.  Thank you Michelle for suggesting Lake Burrendong, what a brilliant spot with powered and unpowered sites, cabins if you wish and what a view.

Regards, Jel
