Friday afternoon and Glen & I had a great run up the Great Western Highway where we met up with Mick & Charm, Phil & Carol at the servo Lithgow, we then travelled onto Mary’s Park Sunny Corner State Forest. Already set up and comfortably into happy hour were the Potts’, Pryor’s and the Conway couples.
Soon after, the rest of the Rare Breed gang arrived and it wasn’t too long and we were well into a fun evening around the camp fire. This was when Gloria advised the group that she had forgotten to pack Friday night dinner however like most Rare Breed women packed enough salad and corned beef for two or more meals. On this night we also met our camping neighbours Jean and Colin, grey nomads who were lovely people and shared the weekend with us, they have been travelling for 11 years in their caravan and have done “the lap” 3 times. I’m so jealous
Saturday morning saw Birdy having to make a run in Bathurst to get a tyre fixed and Renate and Colin did the same to replace the caravan battery. Ron & Evelyn went out on a reckie run to check out some potential future camp sites who returned with some great information.
The rest of us had a food fest on the Saturday where breakfast ran into morning tea which ran into lunch which ran into afternoon tea and ran into happy hour all sitting under a lovely gum tree. We did manage a small walk and a paddle in the creek which was close to camp while the men collected fire wood.
Jo and children, Birdy and Chook did venture off for a play in the forest and all came back soaking wet, by the way Chook drove the beast and it was reported she did extremely well. Well done Chook.
The fire was stoked and roaring to be able to shovel hot coals for the camp ovens for tea. It was a great night sitting around the very impressive camp fire with lots of laughs with a very unusual theme of conversation
Sunday morning came all too quickly and no one really wanted to budge and pack to go home, the weather was just beautiful for the whole of the weekend. It was ok for some though who were staying on for another day or so, lucky Kevin & Ellen.
Thanks everyone for a great weekend, Glen and I are looking forward to spending another fun filled weekend with you for the up and coming club Christmas party.
