TRIP REPORT  'DAY OUT WITH A CAT'.

 Friday 30th October 2009 ...Sunday 1st November 2009.

Happy Campers were.......Angelika, Glen, Gloria, Peter, Kevin and Ellen.

Kevin and Ellen travelled down on Friday to our camp for the weekend.......Jervis Bay Cabins & Camping located at Hideaway Creek, just minutes outside of Huskisson.

Set on 10 acres  with a natural bush setting, Hideaway Creek has a very relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel like you are "right out back' but with the luxuries of bush kitchens, power and fire places to satisfy your pyromaniacal desires.

We spent a peaceful Friday arvo split between walking the beach at Huskie and checking out the camp....wonderful.

Saturday saw  the arrival of first Angelika & Glen and latter in the day Gloria & Peter who due to unfortunate family circumstances had had to drive straight through from Tamworth. Gloria & Peter located us all in Huskie Pub.... we were only there getting a bag of chips for Kev who had an attack of the munchies. Latter that night we all sat around the fire while possums galore came out of the trees for their Halloween treats ! A great night with everyone just unwinding .

Sunday morning saw everyone up and ready to travel to Callala Bay, about a 25 minute drive to pick up our boat. The weather was just perfect, and even though we were 30 minutes early Captain Wayne took us aboard & we set off on our  "Day Out With A Cat" ! We cracked it extra lucky as there was  a total of just 8 passengers on the boat giving us heaps of room and making us all feel very special.

As per normal for the south coast the wind picked up around 11am but not enough to man life boats. Captain Wayne was busy teaching us all how to erect sails & do all kind of boatie things & no one got hurt. We criss crossed  Jervis Bay  tacking here and there (that's boatie talk) chasing a mother whale and her calf travelling through, our efforts were rewarded when they both breached quit close to our port side causing everyone to lurch to that side of the boat. Unfortunately no one told Kev who was manfully hanging off the stern doing a Captain Ahab looking for whales ! Sorry Kev.

We chased the whales for a while getting plenty of sightings until they had enough and shot through. Captain Wayne then took us to Cabbage Tree Bay where we had the whole beach to ourselves, dropped anchor & had lunch in this idyllic postcard setting. It was too much for Kev & Ellen in they went for a swim and a snorkel.....yes the water was FREEZING but oh so worth it ! Just A magic spot. Back on board Gloria was BBQ'ing lunch & herself as well, hope those burns healed up ok Gloria.

We spent  a couple of hours here relaxing after lunch and learning some local history before it was time to sail back, everyone got to have a turn at sailing the boat, some were certainly gifted while others looked like they had lessons on the Titanic !

Back at the dock & our "Day Out With A Cat" was over ...one of the most wonderful experiences I have ever had made more so by the excellent companionship of fellow Rare Breeders, thanks Kevin for organising such a great weekend !

Ellen.
